COME TO STAY
The contrast could hardly be more marked: amidst centuries-old gnarled olive trees lies The Borgo Egnazia. And though its architecture fits right in with the historic villages along the Adriatic Coast, this small place in warm white is exceptionally outfitted. It begins with the central building La Corte. Every one of the elegantly spacious chambers is a room with a view: of olive groves or the sea just 400 meters away, from a balcony or private garden.
The heart of this introspective 5-star little slice of heaven is occupied by simple one or two-story stone cottages with one or two bedrooms and a living/dining area up to 100 square meters. They border the narrow walkways of the Borgo around the piazza just like a small village. These casette are the idea place to while away the hours with the whole family – or good friends. Take one of the hotel’s bicycles on a relaxing tour of discovery down to the beach.
Looking for a little more space and privacy? Kick it up a notch in luxury and book one of the 28 villas. Enjoy three bed rooms, four baths, a completely outfitted kitchen and Mediterranean living space spread out over three stories. And the chaise lounges in the garden are joined by a private pool.
“Nowhere else” is the motto of Borgo Egnazia and there can be no doubt as to why: five restaurants, a wellness center with the Vair Spa, one indoor and three outdoor pools, three tennis courts, three bars (seasonal), two beaches and, last but certainly not least, the nearby wonderful San Domenico Golf Course ensure that you will never want to leave. You won’t even have to, since guests are welcome to stay year round.

If you are in the mood to explore, we highly recommend the UNESCO World Heritage Site Alberobello with its iconic conical buildings known as trulli. These unique little cottages have an almost magical attraction for the few tourists to the region. Lecce, a baroque town that could not be more Italian, is also well worth a visit. And if the kids prefer to be left out of any city tours, they can enjoy a creative and entertaining day in the kid’s club or charming age-appropriate cooking school. Wannabe teenagers will be more than happy to be left behind in the Fichi d’India Teen’s Club. A whole host of water sports like sailing, waterskiing and surfing round out the entertainment program.
